A Rural Idyll

This pretty gîte was created in a former stable and is completely independent from the mill alongside. It faces south-west and opens on a large, sun-trap terrace. Behind it are two barns where we keep our supply of wood and store all kinds of things. You can keep your bicycles there.

We are two kilometres (approximately one mile) from the nearest village, St Germain de Coulamer, where you will find a boulangerie and a Bar/Tabac with accompanying grocery shop and restaurant. Other restaurants, supermarkets, pharmacies etc. will be found in Villaines-la-Juhel or Sille-le-Guillaume, both 14 kms. from the gîte.

The gte nestles between a XVth century manor-house and la Vaudelle, a trout stream.

A mild climate

Our climate can mostly be described as mild. La Mayenne is
usually very green. Grass grows quickly (and has to be mown
often!)

We have built a bridge across the river which gives access to
our “park”, a grand name for our two acres of land where we
planted about 600 trees and where you can walk along the
river.

It does snow around here from time to time, but not very often,
and it is fun to watch it fall while sitting next to your fireplace !

In the gite, gas-fired underfloor heating and a cheery double-sided fireplace (so you can enjoy the fire from the kitchen and the dining-room) ensure all-year-round comfort. If you wish to use your computer, no problem, thanks to free Wi-Fi Internet access.

Changing lights, changing
seasons, changing colors…

Just sit back, relax and
watch !

You might also see an occasional red squirrel, a
curious chicken and many birds (a short guide in
the gite will help you identify them).

The mill is a working mill as the waterfall, on its western side, makes our electricity.

We have four cats, who like it when the turbine works and our house is kept warm !

A peaceful country setting

This view, across the road from us, was taken from the D222 which goes to St Germain. We are in a valley and the countryside around us is rolling farmland.

We have two bicycles for you and the area is best discovered walking or cycling, on quiet country roads or walking paths where nature is well preserved. St Germain has its own called “Le sentier du Bel-Air”. Follow the directions from the village … and bring back bunches of superb wild flowers or generous crops of juicy blackberries.
